Kate and Martin planned a small, intimate affair for their May wedding in South Bend, IN, and wanted an entertainer that could work with their unique style and with experience in motivating a smaller group of people in their mid 30’s and 40’s. Although large events tend to be the most written about, we work with smaller groups of guests all the time and these types of parties are often some of the most fun. Many of the guests already know each other well, and that can bring down a lot of barriers.
This was definitely the case for this reception, which had a wonderful group of family and friends who were ready to party! Kate chose the spacious Morris Park Country Club as her venue who did a superb job in creating a cozy environment for the small group of 50 guests.
It was also a smaller grand entrance as our Morris Park wedding DJ introduced just the Bride and Groom with their daughter to the Beatles “When I’m 64”. A welcome from the father of the bride followed and then heartfelt toasts from the Best Man and Maid of Honor.
Kate and Martin’s country club wedding reception also featured a formal cake cutting flowing immediately into their first dance and the always popular “anniversary dance” highlighting some of long-time marriages of the guests. We allow couples to completely customize their reception experience, and this couple chose to invite their wedding party and then guests to join into the Father-Daughter dance, and also omit the bouquet and garter tosses completely. Every group is unique and we love to celebrate individualism and personal touches as much as the wedding itself!
Music selections for the evening included contemporary upbeat selections for cocktails from artists like Jack Johnson, the Lumineers, Jason Mraz, and Ingrid Michaelson. Dinner featured a classic mix of standards from Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Harry Connick, and Michael Buble. Dancing showcased a wide variety of the bride and groom’s requests, and plenty of the songs for the children in attendance who actually made up over 30% of the guest list. Some of the older kids even treated everyone to an impromptu plastic cup percussion session just like in the movie “Pitch Perfect” while our South Bend wedding DJ played “Cups” by Anna Kendrick. It was a great night and everything Kate and Martin hoped for!
