Kathrin & Kevin met in college when they were partnered up while taking a ballroom dance class, so you can bet that dancing was an important element in their wedding reception. After Kathrin had seen DJ Sticky Boots at a previous reception at The Spohn Ballroom in Goshen, she knew he was the DJ she needed to set their dance floor on fire. Side note: Their first song dancing together: “Captain Jack Sparrow” by the Lonely Island f. Michael Bolton.
This party would be a good-sized one at Bread & Chocolate on the third floor of the Old Bag Factory in Goshen with about 160 guests and a focus on early 2000s and top 40 hits. They also planned for a “Power Hour” which is one of our favorite activities for a reception. It features one hour, later in the evening, where the volume goes up, the lights go down, and Sticky Boots does a full-on nightclub style set with high energy beats and no slow dances.
Kathrin planned for plenty of props her Power Hour as well with glowsticks, masks, and feather boas. After a beautiful, elegant evening of cocktails, toasts, dinner, and socializing, the guests were ready for it too and when the clock struck 10:00pm. Sticky Boots kicked it into overdrive, and the dance floor was absolutely packed until 11:00pm. The night wound up with some fun sing along songs for the last call and was capped off by an awesome sparkler sendoff outside on the abandoned railroad track between the Bag Factory buildings.
We also provided our Splash uplighting package in a warm candlelight yellow for the event which created a beautiful atmosphere early in the evening, but transformed into a bright multicolored nightclub type vibe for the power hour with our computer-controlled wireless uplighting fixtures capable of making 16 million different colors. Uplighting is a lovely effect for any wedding, but when combined with a power hour, guests really get to experience a light show like no other!
