Alexandra and Kevin found love in a bar. No, seriously! Let’s explain … This Dallas TX-based couple were both attending Murray State University in small-town Kentucky and studying bio-chem when a mutual friend suggested they should meet up at a local bar. Rance, the Groom’s Best Man, explained what happened next in his speech: He went into a bar for a fun night with his buddy and before long found himself all-alone in said bar as Kevin had quickly ditched him completely for Alexandra! The rest, as they say, is history.
This couple started their planning with us back over a year ago, and Alexandra knew what she wanted early on. She chose our Platinum Package with DJ Sticky Boots based on recommendations from friends and her familiarity with Sticky’s work on local radio station, U93 when she was growing up in the Granger area. The specific event details were being handled by Lauren Krempec, wedding coordinator with Burn’s Rental-Alls, who supplied much of the decor of the reception.
Burns helped create many unique touches at The Armory in South Bend including a recreation of the Kentucky Bar where the couple met and a guestbook made from original bar-menu pages. Small flower vases were Erlenmeyer flasks to symbolize the couple’s love of chemistry, and table favors consisted of both Jordan almonds to symbolize the Alexandra’s Lebanese heritage and bourbon balls from Kevin’s Kentucky family.
After a lovely ceremony at Smith’s Chapel in Niles MI, the 150 guests made their way to The Armory for cocktails and a hilarious Grand Entrance in which Alexandra’s brother and a bridesmaid switched outfits – Connor wore a bridesmaid dress and Tori a suit. The guests loved it, and we even had to delay the Father of the Bride’s speech a few minutes while Connor changed back into his suit. Alexandra’s dad quipped, “I never thought I’d say I need a few extra minutes for my speech while my son changes out of his dress!” The laughter lit up the entire room!
There were still more surprises in-store however, when after his speech, the Father of the Bride announced a surprise vocal performance from a family friend, Matthew, who sang a special song dedicated to the newlyweds accompanied by his acoustic guitar. It was an amazing moment that no one had expected, and the type of moment we love to make happen.
Bringing back the bar theme, of course Alexandra and Kevin would dance their First Dance as husband and Wife to “Love In A Bar” from country-artist Ryan Hurd. Later in the evening, as Sticky Boots fired up the dance floor, Lauren from Burns broke out the complementary flip-flops and glow sticks, and guests got down to the business of serious partying while Bailey from Blackbird And Rye and Tim from Mohr Entertainment captured all the action on film and video.
As the night came to a close, guests enjoyed some late night pizza from local South Bend favorite Barnaby’s before circling up around the bride and groom for “Wagon Wheel” and then a quirky sing-along of “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey and Justin Bieber, which is a tradition at parties for Alexandra and all of her former Penn High School cheerleaders. As the house-lights rose, guests were told to exit to the front of Ironhand Wine Bar for a sparkler-send off while Alexandra and Kevin danced one last slow dance all alone in the giant room to savor the final moments of a perfect day.
Thoughtful planning and choosing the right vendor team makes all the difference in turning a wedding from average to exceptional, and we’re proud to have been a part of this excellent team to make the night that Alexandra always dreamed of!

High Energy, Organized, Truly Amazing!
I cannot describe how much I recommend Blake @ The Music Place for a DJ and MC for weddings. He was our wedding DJ on 8/1 and had the dance floor packed for 3 hours straight. Blake met with us via Skype multiple times and helped us plan a timeline while we were 17 hours away. He offered a suggestion that absolutely saved our reception and kept the vibe alive. He reads the room and knew exactly what type of music to play for your crowd. Start to finish, he was incredible.
