Industrial buildings are super trendy right now. Exposed loft ceilings with Edison light-bulbs combined with stained concrete floors create the perfect canvas for a truly unique wedding reception.
In South Bend, Indiana, The Brick has all these features and so (so!) much more. Located between the YMCA and the Farmer's Market on Northside Boulevard, this 5,000 square foot venue has a totally open floor plan, an outdoor patio, and an art-deco bar. So cool! The bonus: this was exactly what Katie and Philip were looking for!
Simple and elegant is exactly how we'd describe this now-South Bend based couple. We'd also describe them as totally unique and incredibilmene divertente (psst - that's Italian for incredibly fun). Katie is currently an Associate Teaching Professor of Italian at Notre Dame's Department of Romance Languages and Literatures and her Italian influences were felt throughout the reception with part of the Father of the Bride speech in Italian, tables filled with guests who flew in from Italy and countless conversations overheard in Italian throughout the night. DJ Sticky Boots also customized the dinner playlist with several Italian favorites like “That’s Amore” which had guests singing along at their tables!
Katie is originally from Chicago and this couple wanted some Chicago-flair, too! Enter the Wooden Paddle Mobile Wood Fired Pizza, based in Lemont, Illinois. Wooden Paddle has a food truck that's got a custom built wood fired oven on board and holy cow, it tasted incredible. The meal was served family style, complete with gelato for dessert, and you should have seen guests’ eyes light up as custom-made pizzas started flying out of the kitchen to each table!
Katie and Philips first dance was excellent, but Philip and his mom may have stole the special-dance-show ... they danced to The Twist by Chubby Checker and boy-oh-boy did they twist!
We told you this couple was incredibilmene divertente. Katie and Philip, along with their friends and family, kept the dance floor full all night and ended on just the right note. We always love when couples choose a reception length that allows enough time for cocktails, dinner and dancing but doesn't allow so much time that the party fizzles out. (Let's face it, between busy lives, babysitters, potential travel and other commitments, sometimes it's hard for guests to stay more than five hours). We love parties that go 100% all night and this one certainly did. Katie and Philip ended the night surrounded by their guests in a huge circle singing “Piano Man”.

Dance floor was full from the first song to the last! Just what I wanted!
DJ Sticky Boots had our guests dancing from the very first song until the very end, when a group of roughly 60 guests spontaneously circled around us for the last song. It was magical. Blake is incredibly responsive to emails, very accommodating, and really just looking to help the bride and groom create their perfect evening! We were having so much fun, the evening just flew by! I would highly recommend.
